The Garden

Here are some pics from the garden that my roommates and I planted a few weeks ago.

We planted watermelon, cantaloupe, zucchini, cucumbers, bell peppers, peas, carrots, strawberries, tomatoes, and corn.

At the ripe age of 2, Will is a veteran sports fan. He's been to a myriad of his older brothers' soccer, basketball, and baseball games. Apparently, he's learned a thing or two spectating. Check out the video...

How does this look, Dad?

Reed had been asking for a tie for about 4 or 5 months before his 6th birthday. Heather and I told him he'd have to wait for his b-day in March (not sure why we didn't just fulfill his righteous request earlier). Fortunately, his eager anticipation was met with a tie of his pleasing on the big day. The next Sunday before Church, Reed walked up to me with tie on and no shirt. "How does this look, Dad?" he beamed. "How in the world did you do that?" I asked. Reed walked over to the coffee table, picked up the January edition of The Friend magazine, and opened it up to a How to Tie a Tie article. Apparently, Reed had known of this article for some months and was dying to try it out.


We'll see how long his enthusiasm lasts.

I finished and Tanner medaled.

My time was 2:32:49.80 (my goal was between 2:30 and 2:45).

Tanner finishing. He finished 2nd for his age group, 30th overall out of 326 kids aged 6-12. His time was 7:31.15.

This was taken before we knew Tanner placed. He also got a 2nd place medal.

Easter with the Saporiti Side

The Dalebouts, the Nathan Callisters, the Whites (with their current exchange students), Charles and Grandma, Casey's kids, and Karen Hess all met up at Irvine Regional Park on Saturday for lunch and an egg hunt for the kids. We missed everybody else!

Amanda turned 9 Jan 31st.

Chase turned eight a few days ago. In an unexpected move from Rick, he and the big boys jumped on an airplane and flew to Las Vegas to watch the Cougars beat the Bruins in the Las Vegas Bowl. Happy Birthday, Chase! It was a quick trip, and I very graciously offered to stay at home with Jane and Will. Rick called to check in and when I asked how it was going, he said the boys had been wrestling in the hotel room (Rick was snoozing on the other bed), and Reed fell off the bed and got a pretty good shiner. I decided everything was going just fine and my offer to stay at home was indeed gracious.

Christmas at the R and H Callisters

Merry Christmas Callister Clan!

We celebrated Christmas eve by doing some "deliveries" to friends and neighbors then a visit to Oakland temple, which pretty much has the best lights in the entire Bay Area. When people find out we're Mormon, they always ask us if we go to church at the "big church" in Oakland (the temple). And for the time being, we can actually feel cool and say yes (but only until our regular local chapel is renovated).

I decided it's the best having little kids at Christmas (and most every other holiday). Our next door neighbors came and brought us cookies today. They are an older German couple whose only daughter lives in NY. I invited them inside, and she said she wanted to see my tree since they didn't even put one up this year. He looked at all my kids running around in pajamas and toys all over the place and said, "This is what it's all about."

We'll just call you "Glam girl." Legos and a nasty shiner.

Hey Rick. . .uh. . .I mean Chase, time to turn off "Backyard Football."

Rick was thrilled when I suggested that for Christmas this year, we don't get each other anything and get a new front yard instead. . .thanks Rick.
